Gore-respondence
Fang-Mail, Creepy Correspondence, and Monstrous Mailings...

Welcome! HORROR-WOOD solicits your letters, posts, questions, and comments. Particularly if you have questions concerning classic and cult horror films, send them here. If Renfield can't "dig up" an answer, he'll refer it to other classic and cult horror film buffs. And now for the monthly Gore-respondence...

JAPANESE-ITALIAN SCI-FI WITH DEATH CLIPS?

Renfield:

Love the site! I have a question!

Back in the early to mid Eighties, there was a horror show on Saturday afternoons. A couple of times they played what looked to be a mid to late Sixties or early Seventies Italian sci-fi movies, possibly a Japanese movie with Italian actors. From what I remember, it had some stylistic similarities to Planet Of The Vampires, but the biggest thing I remember was at the end during the credits they would show a little clip of the actor or actress alive, then a short clip of the scene in which they were killed. It was great.

Any idea what this might be? Thanks!

--Chris

Chris:

Thanks for reading and loving us. The feeling is mutual. As far as the movie you’re describing, we would suggest The Green Slime, since it was a Japanese movie with an international cast, but we don’t recall that bit of business in the end credits. Perhaps an alert reader may have better information for you. At any rate, thanks for writing to us. Cheers!

LOOKING FOR A REVIEWER...

Hey Renfield:

This is Darvin at Hypnotic Video. I was curious if you'd be interested in a couple of DVD-R's (or VHS) of your choice in exchange for a link/review at your site? Apologies for the shameless soliciting, but I've been a fan of your webzine for two-three years and would be grateful if you'd consider giving us a link. If you're interested, let me know and I can recommend some titles if you'd like.

The majority of our titles are transferred from 16mm, though we do offer some stuff from laserdisc and a very select few from rare VHS/PAL sources. If you'd like any specific information about particular titles, just ask. Drop me a line anytime and keep at it with HORROR-WOOD!

--Regards, Darvin Hager, Hypnotic Video

Darvin:

Glad you’re a fan of our little Webzine and thanks for the kind offer. However, we’re interested in our readers, not old Renfield, doing reviews on our "Video Sources" page, since it’s the readers who do the buying. If any reader would like to review Darvin’s on-line video firm, please drop us a line. Cheers!

UPDATE MY LINK, PLEASE

Renfield:

I have a link in your links section and the url has changed. I wrote for most of a year trying to get it updated but no one replied. Can someone help me? You have my site listed under Fearsome Fan tribute sites on the links page. The url has changed.

--Steven Whitehurst, Classic Horror Movies

Steven:

Sorry! We must have been dozing at the switch when you contacted us last. Frankly, horror film Websites have been coming and going (mostly going) in the past couple of years that updating links could become about a full-time job, but we do our best.

By the way, use of the "free sites" sometimes drives folks away from your site, since so many of them are basically pop-up ad farms. Thanks for writing.

YO-HO-HO AND A GAG AT THE END

Renfield:

If you haven't seen the new Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, make sure you sit through the credits, as there is a gag scene at the very end.

--Bob Statzer

Bob:

Alas, old Renfield isn't in shape to attend the cinema any more. What was that gag scene? Thanks.

KEEP OUR "DEAD"-LINES IN MIND

Renfield:

If you are planning on attending The Indie Gathering (Aug 4/5/6) 2006 and wish to be a panelist, please send us your name, where you are from and a paragraph about yourself. This information will be used to assign individuals to panel discussions. Film winners are now being posted to the web site and Aug. 4th (Friday) film screening schedule is also posted. Due to the volume of scripts, the script competition winners list will be posted on 7/15.

If you submitted a film or script you have a VIP weekend pass on file. If you did not submit a project the cost of a week end pass is $25 open to the public.

--Ray Szuch, Founder, The Indie Gathering

Ray:

No, can’t make the gig. Again, we wish folks would realize that we publish monthly, and to get any news items in a timeframe that recognizes that. We would imagine that perhaps an HORROR-WOOD reader or two would like to be a panelist at your independent film festival. Just keep our "dead"-lines in mind next time, 'Kay?

HORROR FILM PARODY FILM ON LINE

Dear Renfield:

I have a new Horror Film Parody short film that has been getting some play on the Internet. If you like it, I was wondering if you'd consider writing it up on your site? Thank you and God bless.

--Jordan A. Crowder

Jordan:

No write-up, since it’s not our cup of tea, but we’re happy to provide your link so our readers can check it out. Thanks for writing.

MORE PROMO FLACK FROM THE EVER HOPEFUL

Renfield:

Chilling creatures and a veteran cast top line the new horror epic Fallen Angels, etc., etc., and etc.

--Jeff Thomas

Dear Renfield:

Hello. My name is Jason Crowe. I'm an actor in Louisville and I am in the middle of filming what we hope to soon be a cult hit. Our film is called Dead Moon Rising. A zombie film, mixed with Shaun of The Dead/28 Days Later/High Fidelity. We have already gotten quite a buzz going for our little Louisville Kentucky based film. If you recall, Return Of The Living Dead was also filmed here, yada, yada, and yada...

--Jason

Jeff and Jason:

Well, it wouldn’t be a true Gore-respondence section without yet another promoter of a brand-spanking-new horror flick (or two, or twenty) sending us promotion material when we clearly don’t cover brand-spanking-new horror flicks. Thanks for keeping up the tradition, fellas.
